Carla Smith was born in Waukegan, Illinois, and began her education in North Chicago schools. After relocating from the area, she completed her education in the public school system in Memphis, Tennessee. She graduated with a degree in Computer Science/Accounting from Southeast College in Memphis.
In giving her life over to the Lord in March 1988, God began to use her life to help others overcome. She relocated with her husband and children to Upper Marlboro, MD and joined CPBBC in 1999. She served as an Usher and a teacher for Amazing Grace Ministry as well as a counselor with the Forestville Pregnancy Center in MD. She accepted her call to public ministry in 2004 and has continued to allow God to use her life as a living testimony.
Carla was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2008. Despite the doctor’s initial diagnosis for her surviving and reoccurrence, God allowed His hand in her healing as she continued to confess Mark 9:23 “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to Him that believeth”. She believed for a specific healing and stood on God’s Word and promises. She now stands as a vessel of honor for God to use to help others battling cancer and is committed to raising awareness for early detection and screening. God has begun to allow her to educate and support others in conquering cancer spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically.
She is currently serving as ministry support and outreach coordinator for the More Than Conquerors Ministry and is involved in the Women of Rare Distinction (W.O.R.D.) Ministry, Intercessory Prayer Ministry, and ministers to the youth at Waxter’s Juvenile Detention Center.
Carla‘s favorite scripture is “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us in His triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place ”. 2 Corinthians 2:14. She looks forward to continuing to help others triumph and be overcomers and to be more than conquerors, allowing God to be glorified in every area of their lives.
Carla has been married to the mighty man on valor, Dwayne Smith for 21 years. She is a proud mother of three; Sherry Marquitta Sade’, De’niz DeAngelo and Bryson Delaney Smith, and is “Ma Cee Cee” to granddaughter, Jamiyah Ariyana Bonds.
